Interior Design - Decorating a Small Room

Every bit of space counts.

It is commonly thought that if you are decorating a small room, you should use small furniture pieces and various other items in order to make the room look bigger. People seem to forget that "less is more" and makes for great impact when designing small spaces.

Small rooms don't have to limit you to smaller pieces of furniture in order to present an open, airy feel. Frequently, placing a few larger pieces in the room will not only assist in easier room flow but causes the space to feel more inviting and larger than the square footage actually is.

Another issue that many people have difficulty with when decorating small areas is color. Frequently, deeper or brighter colors and patterns on the grand scale in wall coverings are a better choice for these little jewels. Think of colors that you feel comfortable wearing or rooms where you've been that seem to enfold you with a welcoming warmth.

Consider what the major use of the room will be. In the case of an office used on a full-time basis, it is significant to think about how comfortable you will feel day to day working in this room.

If working at home is your situation, you might want to choose a more sedate color palate that will be soothing and comfortable. If staying alert and being creative are your needs, then, by all means, go for the bold and dramatic.

If your space is going to be used as a part-time office, perhaps you should indulge your fantasies and go for the more brilliant color concentration. Whatever your choices, you need to be certain that you love the pieces and colors that you are utilizing in your tiny space. Consider room flow as well as function when furnishing your little niche and remember that "less" can be "more.
