One of the most important parts of a swimming pool pump system is the filter. Obviously, the pool pump filter is responsible for the removal of dirt, bugs, leaves and other debris that would otherwise make your pool unusable. That static nature of pools means that the water sits and collects what the wind brings. As time goes on, the water becomes unappealing, or even unhealthy to swim in.

This is where your pool filter comes in. With great efficiency, it remove particulates that contaminate your swimming pool. Today, there are as many different kinds of pool filters as there are different swimming pool pumping systems, and using the correct one for your system is key to an energy efficient system.

Swimming Pool Cartridge filters have paper-type cartridge. Some users find it difficult to maintain and are not as efficient as sand filters. Some manufacturers have enhanced the capability and they can be used as better filtering mediums. They can be used for at least five years. Prepared from polyester like material, they perform excellent filtering process, by holding the impure material until cleaned or replaced.

The Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is the most expensive filters with advanced features. They are like sand filters but use of powder makes them different. It has plastic grids covered with plastic fabric. The dirt water is poured in slurry into the skimmer, then coating the filter grids. Sometimes it is a better option than sand filters.

Depending on the region you live in and the water's characteristics, you may require one type of filter or another. In all situations, DE filters provide you with the cleanest water possible, but they are also the most expensive swimming pool filters.
