If you are a United States Veteran, you can get lots of discounts on your home loans. You may not know that not all lenders are VA home loan lenders and there is actually a difference. Not all lenders offer VA benefits, so you may wonder what the difference is between a home loan lender and a VA home loan lender. How do you find one in your area? The Main Difference... VA home loan lenders are those who provide benefits to veterans. Now, if you are not a veteran, you can still find benefits. For instance, as long as the military sees you as a veteran, then you would qualify for a loan of this type. To qualify as a veteran, you need to have served in the US armed forces, and be honorably discharged, or not on active duty. If you've been dishonorably discharged, you're not considered a veteran - and if you're on active duty, you're not a veteran, but can get benefits for it. Keep in mind that some lenders do not provide benefits to veterans, which might seem strange. For that reason, it is vital to search for the right lending company. How Do I Find VA Home Lenders There is no, as far as I have found, overall 'database' of loan officers that offer VA home loans. Really, finding VA home loan lenders is harder than it sounds! You should start looking at the rates and see what they have and what you can get a loan for. Then you can call them and see if they offer any VA home loans and what kinds of rates you are able to get from them. Sometimes, companies will advertise what they'll offer you on their websites, and plainly tell you if they're a VA home loan lender or not. This usually is rare, though - the goal of the website is to drive you to their office, where they're going to try to push you into a loan. You will probably have more luck with an online loan company because they are going to be a little more flexible and have a better rate for your mortgage. They won't have as much overhead and can pass on the savings to you. In Summary Even though it can be tough in finding VA home loan lenders, they do exist. If you are willing to put in the time and effort to do research, you will find a number of excellent options.
