Start a Green Home Improvement Window Project

Probably one of the most costly remodeling jobs to do is replacing windows, a home improvement window project can cost you thousands of dollars in a heart beat. Even though energy efficient windows are more expensive initially, there are quite a few reasons why your home should have them fitted.

While saving money could be the first thing that comes into your thoughts when deliberating about energy efficient windows, considering what is correct for the environment and increasing the overall appeal of your house should also be something to think about. Also, starting in 2006, Americans can get a tax credit if they have energy efficient designs in their home improvement window plan.

Saving both money and energy:

Energy efficient windows can lower heating and cooling costs by approximately 25% or more. Less energy will be required to maintain your house temperature, so smaller HVAC systems can be installed in a house. Installing an energy efficient design is a fantastic home improvement window idea if protecting the environment is of any importance to you.

Getting your tax credit:

The Federal Energy Policy Act of 2005 allows for a $2,000 tax credit for energy efficient homes completed after December 31, 2005. To qualify, the home's heating and cooling costs must be 50 percent less than the cost of a comparable home that met official 2003 and 2004 international energy standards. Not many other home improvement window projects are going to give you break when it comes tax time.

Home comfort a priority plan:

Your home improvement window plan will most likely place comfort high on the priority list, and energy efficient windows can help this for sure. In the winter, inefficient windows will cool the air around them, creating the feeling of a cool draft even if the window is correctly sealed and have window blinds, energy efficient designs stop this from happening.

Also in the summer months, these types of windows will keep the house from getting to hot due to sunlight, making it less necessary to over use the air conditioner. A point to note! to much use of air conditioner can aggravate arthritis and create breathing problems.

Extra light and better views:

Usually, windows are can be wonderful sources of natural light, however, with natural light comes solar heat and this what can make a house warm. To keep that from happening window blinds and tints are often used, these will cut down on the amount of natural light. When your home improvement window project includes energy efficient designs though, shades and tints are often not necessary. The technology used in new glazes cuts down on the solar heat while still allowing maximum visibility through the glass.

If you have an older house you are looking for ways to modernize, you won't go far wrong by starting with the windows. The many benefits of energy efficient windows make them a must have for your home improvement window project.
